Dear Madam/Sir,

According to recent news that have appeared on the press about the fact that Fernando Alonso is not going to wear anymore the Asturian flag printed on his helmet, Club F1 Oviedo, Alonso supporters, requests McLaren-Mercedes Team that this flag should be incorporated in the helmet as it was in the previous years. The reason for not printing this flag in Alonso´s helmet is “colour incompatibility”, but we must remember that the Asturian flag and its colours (blue and yellow) have created what is called “Marea Azul” (the Blue Wave), formed by Alonso´s supporters and well known in circuits all over the world.

Fernando Alonso has shown off with proud the name of our city, Oviedo, and our region, Asturias, all along the world. And at the same time, we, people from Oviedo and from Asturias, feel very proud of  our champion's victories. The blue flag of our region, decorated with the Victory Cross in yellow, has accompanied Fernando during his successful career. It is like a lucky charm. And it is a symbol for our region.

That is why we would like that Fernando Alonso could continue showing the Asturian flag on his helmet during this new stage that he is going to begin with McLaren-Mercedes Team. We would be grateful even if it is shown in a reduced place, which surely will not cause a strong colour impact against the team colours. And if it is not possible, would it be possible for him to show only the Victory Cross, which is strongly connected to our region, and which has been shown by Fernando during this last 2 successful years?

We also seize the opportunity to wish McLaren-Mercedes Team a great success in F1, because this success will be Fernando´s as well. The “Marea Azul” (Blue Wave) made of Alonso´s supporters, will be on his side.

Best regards,

Club F1 Oviedo
